As the founder of AACCF, I organized the inaugural AGRITECH event, themed “Empowering Women in Agriculture Through Technology,” spanning two days. It served as a platform to celebrate International Women’s Day and invest in the progress of women in agriculture, particularly in Ogun State, Nigeria.
Hosted at the City of Knowledge Academy on April 18th and 19th, 2024, the event gathered stakeholders to recognize and applaud the resilience and contributions of women farmers.
On Day 1 of the training, In my welcoming address, I expressed gratitude to partners and guests for their support, setting the tone for an event attended by notable figures such as Her Excellency, the First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, and the Honorable Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security Ogun State, Hon. Bolu Owotomo and Hon. Mallam Jinadu, Grassroot Mentor.
Her Excellency, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, graced the occasion with a powerful speech, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting women farmers and promoting their socio-economic empowerment.
As the Commissioner of Agriculture delivered remarks, highlighting the imperative of addressing gender disparities and promoting women’s participation in agricultural value chains.
A health talk by Pharmacist Mrs. Kudi Kotun Ligal emphasized wellness and self-care.
Marcus Ogunfolaju and Ayobami Awode from HerVest provided in-person training to teach women how to utilize technology in agriculture.
Additionally, a representative from Wema Bank delivered a speech, highlighting the bank’s support for farmers who open accounts with them.
Additionally, the event included the honoring of outstanding women farmers, inspiring others to strive for excellence in the field.
On the 2nd day, April 19th, I thanked partners and guests again for their steadfast support.
Notable figures like Her Excellency Mrs. Funso Amosun, the Former First Lady of Ogun State, and the representative of the Commissioner of Agriculture and Food Security -Mr Busi Ibrahim, Wema bank representative – Mrs Abimbola Agbejule, Head, Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility were in attendance for the second day.
Mrs. Funso Amosun stressed the need to close the gender gap in agriculture, highlighting the challenges faced by women farmers. She aim to create a supportive environment for their growth.
The Representative of the commissioner of Agriculture reiterated the importance of women farmers in food security and poverty reduction, pledging government support.
Pharmacist Mrs. Kudi Kotun Ligal spoke on wellness and self-care.
Marcus Ogunfolaju and Ayobami Awode of HerVest conducted hands-on training sessions to empower women in integrating technology into agriculture practices.
Moreover, a Wema Bank representative, Mrs Abimbola Agbejule spoke on giving the female famers medical insurance to safeguard their health.
I also honored exemplary women farmers with certificate of attendance and gifts. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Wema Bank who sponsored the entire event , to City of knowledge Academy for their support, to HerVest for the training they gave the Women of Ogun State and Channels for their unwavering support, as well as to all the media teams who attended the event.
